Six talented actors will be taking on almost three-dozen roles when the curtain lifts Friday on the second production of Theatre Woodstock’s 2022-2023 season.
Penned by American playwright A. R. Gurney, The Dining Room is a series of 18 vignettes that explore friendships, familial relationships and “situations and people that may seem all too familiar.” Set in the titular dining room, the characters in this comedy of manners gather to “talk, argue, conduct clandestine affairs, have parties, make plans and occasionally eat.”
“It’s a show about families, friendships and everything in between,” director Lenore Butcher said in a release. “There’s an amazing fluidity and chemistry with this cast.
“An actor can go from being a six-year-old at a birthday party in one scene to an old man chastising his grandson in the next. When you look at it superficially, there seems to be very little connecting these 18 scenes. But if you look just a little deeper, you’ll see the threads of humanity that connect us all.”
The Dining Room opens at the Market Centre Theatre on Friday at 7:30 p.m. while a 2 p.m. matinee is slated for Saturday. The other 7:30 p.m. performances are scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8; Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10.
Tickets are available through the Market Centre box office at 22 Reeve St. in Woodstock or online at theatrewoodstock.com.
